2007 LTHL Winter Season Week 1

The LTHL kicked off its 2007 season on New Year's Eve eve with a pretty good turnout. Three players made their debuts: Vic Varjan from Evanston, Bill Buklis from the Northwest side of Chicago and Dwayne Stegner of Chicago's Hegeswich neighborhood. Vic and Bill had played Irwin/Winwell (like Coleco) before while Dwayne has run the WTHA, a Munro league on some very nice customized games in his basement, for four years. It was a new season, but the same result: Rob Chargo went undefeated. Only Eric Krol was able to eke out a 2-2 tie against him as Chargo ran the table. Jim Rzonca took second with 24 points, edging out Krol on the third tiebreaker, wins. Jeff Thill returned from his big Shark Tank Coleco tournament win on Dec. 2 to take fourth with 22 points. Thill and Krol squared off in the final round tied and Krol won 2-0 on a couple defenseman clearing attempts that ended up finding the net. Jeff Thill took fourth by virtue of beating John Medema in the second round. So Tinley Park's Medema, who was runner-up in the summer season, took fifth. Rich Thill had a good showing for sixth. Among the newcomers, Vic picked up three wins to finish seventh, ahead of Stegner by one point.
