The boys were back on the Stiga tables Dec. 3 as the Lemont Table Hockey League kicked off its 2005-06 winter season. Week 1 was held during a snowstorm and we still drew seven players. Taking top honors was Jim Rzonca, who edged out Rob Chargo 4-1 in the final game of the night to take first place. Rzonca won 2 of 3 from Chargo, who went 16-2-0. No one could touch either Rzonca or Chargo all night except for when the two squared off. The exception was John Medema, who tied Rzonca on the way to a third-place finish. Dan Lord was fourth. Vito and Nick's was the new venue, and the players gave Rzonca a nice hand for securing the place after the Quarry Inn was sold. We set up shop in back of the bowling lanes and attracted some attention, including a guy who played at the big Holiday Inn tournament (Crystal Ice Munro, I think) in the 1970s in Chicago. Another teenager heard it was table hockey night and showed up to check it out.
