What a difference two weeks makes. Last time out, a huge snowstorm
and this week, temps above 50 in early February. We were back at Jim
Rzonca's house for Week 5 of the LTHL with 11 players showing up.
League-leader Rob Chargo was back in the house and took top honors. He
lost his first game 4-2 to Eric Krol, but rebounded to go unbeaten in
his next 18. Finishing second was Jim Rzonca, whose only two losses
were to Chargo. Third place was Ron Marsik, who had a great afternoon
by most players' standards at 13-5-1, but that was probably the most
losses he's had in one day in three-plus years of Lemont Stiga play.
Taking fourth was Krol, who was on fire in the first round going 8-2,
losing only to Marsik and Rzonca. He came back down to earth in the
second round, but scored his first-ever win against Marsik on any table
hockey game ever. Krol was up 2-0, coughed up the lead but scored on a
LW-C tip with under 30 seconds left, stunning himself with a 3-2 win.
Jeff Farwell had a strong first 2/3 of the second round, but his late
bid for fourth stalled with a couple losses at the end. Next week, Krol
and Salazar (and perhaps Farwell, Dan Lord and Jeff Thill) are headed
to Philly for the Stiga Liberty Classic. Then a bye week (while Rich
Thill's MHL gears up on Coleco) before we return Feb. 26 in the LTHL.
Three Stars of the night
1. Rob Chargo: Back this week, 18 in row unbeaten.
2. Eric Krol: Was en fuego in first round.
3. Jim Rzonca: Upended Marsik twice.
