Food options around the VFW

Walking: There are several restaurants in downtown Lemont. Most are not of the fast food variety. This list may not be up to date, since these businesses have changed hands over the years.

Driving: There's a bunch of fast food restaurants up State Street/Lemont Road. Head up the hill out of the VFW parking lot and turn right at the light to head south for a mile or two. 127th and State is the big intersection. Options on the right include McDonald's, Taco Bell, KFC, Subway, China Wok and Burger King. Jimmy John's subs is on the left. Here's a map: CLICK HERE

Take a taxi from O'Hare airport:

It'll cost you about $50-$70 for the ride from O'Hare to the hotels or venue, but the plus is that fare is the same for as many passengers as you can fit in the cab. They recommend calling after you pick up your luggage. Universal Taxi can be reached at (630) 617-5400. American Taxi is at (877) 755-2227. And since we posted this, Uber and Lyft have come into use.

Sporting events:
The Cubs, the 1916 World Series champions, and the White Sox, the 2005 World Series might be in town. Tickets are typically very easy to get at a Sox game. Click here: Sox schedule

There also are numerous minor league baseball teams in the Chicago suburbs. The Cubs Single-A affiliate is the Kane County Cougars. There's also the Windy City Thunderbolts, Joliet Slammers and Schaumburg Boomers that are part of independent leagues. Do a Google search for any of them.

Golf where Tiger plays:
Get in 18 holes at Cog Hill, once the site of the Western Open, which Tiger Woods has won. It's in Lemont, not far from the tournament venue. See the course: Cog Hill

If you're bringing the missus, shopping is just 15 minutes away at upscale Oak Brook Center or Orland Square Mall.
